Human engagements in life activities are generally filled with enormous risks. Hunting as an outdoor activity as such also not left out. Risk such as injuries, unstable terrain, attack from dangerous animals, etc. may occur when you engage in hunting activity. All of these are considered an emergency situation that most likely will happen during Hunting.

It is, therefore, important to know what to take with you when going on a Hunt so as to prepare you and also take adequate safety measures when these emergencies happen.


Now that you know what Hunting is, every hunter should also have a first aid knowledge and carry along with the following items when going for hunting so as to be prepared for possible dangers or emergencies that may arise.    


The first thing you should pack when going hunting is the first aid kit. A first aid kit is a medical emergency set that contains wound cleaning solution, bandages, tape, and pain killers. If you are on a prior medication, then you should also include it in your first aid kit. should there be an injury or wound during your expedition, the first aid kit will come in handy to treat the wound. 


Communication is very important in emergency situations. There is always a need for a distress call or talk to someone for rescue, relief, solution during an emergency. When hunters go out in groups, they are usually dispersed as safety measures, so when there is an emergency on one side, you will need a phone to keep in touch with another to let them know the situation you are in.


A power bank is needed as a backup. Assuming Your phone or communication device runs out of power, what do you do? you are definitely going to need a fully charged power bank to power it. A power bank will be very handy during emergency


Food is very important and shouldn’t be ignored.  You should take enough food, snacks for your hunting trip regardless of the number of days that you intend to spend. Emergencies happen, as you do not know what might happen out there, to avoid getting stuck as a result of hunger, having enough food can mean the difference between life and death.


Water is an important as food, you need water to quench taste, for dehydration. Also carry water purifying items such as purifying tablets, water filter as they will come in handy in case the water you brought from home runs out.  The advantage of the filter is that no matter where you get your water from, the filter will keep it free of impurities.


A whistle is another signaling device that you should carry along when going on hunting. The sound from a whistle when blown can help people find and rescue you easily in case of an emergency.


A quality knife or multi-tool and a gun with enough ammunition are highly recommended as weapons of defense to carry along on a hunting trip in case of an attack.


A prepared hunter needs to carry along Fire Makers that need to be scattered all throughout your gear and clothing. You do not know if you get stranded due to extreme weather, so you need a fire maker to keep you warm and give you light in case you need to spend the night in the outdoors.

Light Source or a Torch 

A torchlight will illuminate your environment when there’s darkness and will enable you to see your environment clearly and possible attacks.  There are different sizeable ones with holders or hooks that you can attach to the brim of your hat. 


A GPS Device is available on your phone and will help you navigate your way around and if you ever miss your way it will come handy and will help you find your way. The traditional printed Map and a compass will also do the same job as your GSP should there be a failure in your device When you are equipped with the aforementioned, you are prepared for most of the emergencies that might happen out there.


Every hunter should carry along a reflective cloth as a means of identification that you are a hunter because you are most likely not going to be the only hunter around so that you will not be seen as a potential danger and get attacked.


Emergency situations are unexpected and can be chaotic. Usually, they make you lose composure during a crisis and forget the appropriate actions to take.it is important firstly to always be prepared for an emergency situation and also have a basic knowledge of what to do in the event of an emergency. 

The following are a list of the first things to do in an emergency situation:

  • Do not panic and stay calm. focus your mind on the situation you are in. This will allow you to think clearly and use common sense.
  • Access the situation for danger. Decide whether it is safer to move to a place of safety
  • Once you are safely sheltered-in-place, call for help using 911 and clearly explain what you know about the situation
  • Locate your phone or a means of communication and call for help using 911 and clearly explain the situation that you are in.
  • If any injury occurs locate your first aid kit to provide yourself the first treatment
  • If you are dehydrated and are short of water supply 
  • If you are lost: get yourself to a safe place, sit down for a minute or two admit the fact that you are lost. Now, take out your map, compass, GPSs, or whatever and try to find your way back to where you DID know where you were.

Hunting as an outdoor activity is very interesting and relaxing considering the experience of peace of nature, fresh breath of air, and being in a solitary place away from all the distractions and city noise can be a worthwhile experience. Hunting can also be very dangerous because of its risks, you must be aware of the potential risk involved, acquire knowledge on hunter safety measures that will enable you to tackle emergencies before heading out on a hunt.
